Set and lighting paragraph
Act 3, Scene 1
In our scene, we are recreating the moon and woodcutter scene in Blood Wedding. Our scene looks very dark and ominous. It is set at night and in a dark forest. The scene is set right before the moon comes out, while the woodcutters are still in the scene. Major colors we use are brown, black, and gray. We are also including trees and foliage to contribute to the forest scene. Symbols we are trying to include is the river, because it is mentioned in the scene and we think has a deeper and more significant meaning. We are also trying to include the moon, which has a deeper meaning of want and jealousy. Our lighting is a pale blue moonlight, with additional light behind the back of the scene to glow through the holes of the paper like shining stars.
“Second Woodcutter: Her body is his, and his is hers.
Third Woodcutter: They’ll hunt them down and kill them.
First Woodcutter: But their blood will have mingled, and they’ll be like two empty vessels, two dry streams.
Second Woodcutter: There’s heavy cloud, perhaps the moon will be hidden.
First Woodcutter: The bridegroom will find them, moon or no moon. I saw him leave. Like a raging meteor. His face ashen. Revealing the family destiny.”
Our lighting for this scene is very dark and ominous. It is based on a dark blue, which we think closely resembles the moonlight in the scene. Our scene is based at night in a pitch black forest, where the moon has the potential to light up the scene as bright as the sun in the daytime. We made this decision because we think this is how the scene would have looked in real life, and we are trying to adapt this concept to our own.
